About Omar Mulla
Mr Mulla was born and raised in Yorkshire. Having graduated from Newcastle University in 2007 he embarked upon junior doctor training at home in Yorkshire. Following this Mr Mulla completed his extensive ENT surgical training within the Yorkshire area and has worked at almost every hospital in Yorkshire.

Mr Mulla was appointed as a consultant ENT surgeon in Doncaster & Bassetlaw Teaching Hospitals in October 2019 and started his post in March 2020 after finishing off with specialised training in head and cancer, voice and laser work.

It didn’t take long for Mr Mulla to build up an incredibly in demand NHS practice where he sees everything from general ENT to complex head and neck cancer. General ENT surgery includes tonsillectomy, snoring surgery, sinus surgery and blocked nose surgery to name a few. He has carried out over 3000 procedures and this number is rapidly imcreasing.
Whilst Mr Mulla is proficient in all aspects of ENT Surgery most NHS consultants have a specific interest and area of complete expertise. For Mr Mulla this is voice, thyroid, parathyroid, airway and head and neck surgery in general. He is the only thyroid surgeon in his trust and is known to take on complex cases that other surgeons have refused.

Mr Mulla runs a specialist laryngology clinic where he routinely receives referrals from all across Yorkshire and way beyond. These referrals are for voice, swallowing and airway problems. His voice clinic is very well recognised and often has other ENT consultants coming to observe to try and learn tips and tricks from Mr Mulla. Within the specialist voice practice Mr Mulla sees many professional voice users such as singers and has performed many procedures including voice augmentation and botulinum toxin injections under both local and general anaesthesia. Mr Mulla also performs many swallowing procedures under local anaesthesia.

Mr Mulla was cherry picked to become the lead and neck cancer multi disciplinary team (MDT) meeting. This means that he chairs the discussions for all patients diagnosed with head and cancer in South Yorkshire and Bassetlaw. It is his responsibility to ensure that treatment recommendations are correct and in line with current evidence. He is also a core member of the thyroid MDT. Due to his involvement in Cancer Care all patients with thyroid cancer in South Yorkshire and Bassetlaw have Mr Mulla’s input.
Education and keeping up to date is a key principle of Mr Mulla’s practice. He attends many courses and conferences and regularly goes abroad to different specialist ENT units to learn further specialist skills which he brings back for the benefit of his patients.

In August 2020 he was appointed clinical tutor for junior and middle grade ENT doctors. He looks after their educational requirements keeps and teaches them ensuring his knowledge and skills up to date.

Mr Mulla works very closely with the university of Sheffield and supervises undergraduate bachelor of science students for their degree and thesis. He actively participates in research and is currently the site lead for four different ENT research projects. Mr Mulla has published over 20 articles in scientific surgical journals in addition to book chapters.

As course organiser his knowledge and skills are constantly kept up to date and allows him to regularly meet other consultants who help with the courses and bounce ideas back and forth with them.

When Mr Mulla is not an ENT Surgeon he is kept busy with his family and looking after his health. He has 4 young daughters that keep him busy and whenever he gets a chance he is often seen out running, cycling or swimming. He is a keen believer that having a happy and active personal life is the key to a successful professional life.
